I’m Rod Whitson, president of Townsend Inc. , a leading results-driven brand communications firm. We help organizations with innovative products and services increase sales and move markets. We are in sunny San Diego.
I’m also branding nut. A fanatic. A passionate believer in the power of a strong brand to drive strategic agendas and take companies to new heights of success.
Why am I starting a blog?
Because I believe branding is one of the most important yet misunderstood tools that companies have to grow sales and revenues. Not to mention reputation, name recognition, shareholder value and things like that. I also believe there’s a great deal of misinformation out there that serves to obfuscate and confuse rather than add clarity to the general body of knowledge regarding this essential activity.
So I’m starting what I hope will be a dialog – which means a two-way communication -- between myself and anyone out there who cares to engage in the conversation.
On a regular basis, I’ll report on what I’m reading, seeing and hearing as a dedicated practitioner of corporate branding. My goal is to shine the spotlight on what works in terms of building a strong brand, what doesn’t work, and everything in between. And because Townsend tends to specialize in these areas, I’ll place special emphasis on high-tech, biotech and life science branding efforts.
Your job is to challenge my thinking and respond with ideas and insights of your own. In the process, we will hopefully add some much-needed clarity to the discussion and come away with a better understanding of this mysterious activity we call branding.
